In 2005, Google and AIM signed a deal which consists of showing google ads on AOL search engine. Another part of the deal comes with the GTalk-AIM integration. Two years having passed, Google started working on the system for the GTalk users to communicate with AIM’s users in order to compete with the Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo Messenger interoperability which is doing very well. AIM is now updating their system to create a XMPP gateway which would allow XMPP/Jabber clients to access the AIM network using AIM screen names.

Today, Google has released a new version of Google Talk with minor updates.
The updates I noticed are:
- Windows Vista Support.
- GTalk will warn you if you’re trying to close a certain conversation when you have an active file transfer.
We will keep you updated!
You’ve been asking whether Google Talk will work on Windows Vista. Ask no more — today we’re releasing an update that makes it compatible with Vista. You don’t have to do anything — you’ll get the new update automatically — and whenever you upgrade to Vista, Google Talk will automatically work. We have also posted this new version on the Google Talk download page.
